In 1919 Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown made the first non-stop aerial crossing of the Atlantic in a modified Vickers Vimy aircraft. Their journey was 1980 miles and took them 16 hours and 12 minutes. This statue of them standing together is outside the Heathrow Visitors' Centre at Heathrow Airport.
