This statue of Boudicca, she was also know as Queen Boadicea (died AD 62), is on the corner of Westminster Bridge. The statue was by Thomas Thornycroft and was unveiled in 1902.
Boudicca was married to Prasutagus, King of Iceni. When he died, the Romans mistreated Boudicca and seized her wealth. She then led an uprising against the Roman invaders. After much fighting, it is thought that she took her own life by taking poison, her body being buried by her tribesmen. It is rumoured that this burial place is now under Platform 10 at Kings Cross station!
